Dr. Barbian received his doctorate in clinical psychology from The Cambridge Graduate School of Psychology in Los Angeles. He also holds a master’s degree in marriage, family and child counseling, and a bachelor’s degree in Biblical studies. He began his work as a counselor in 1986, and has extensive counseling experience in private practice as well as in a church setting. He is the founder and current Executive Director of The Christian Counseling Center of First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, South Carolina. Dr. Barbian has also been an adjunct professor at Columbia International University in Columbia South Carolina since 1999, where he teaches courses in Addiction, Crisis Counseling, Family Therapy, and Supervised Clinical Internship.

In addition to his training in sexual addiction, Dr. Barbian has received specialized training in chemical dependency, anxiety disorders, attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder, child therapy and post-traumatic stress disorder. He has also been actively involved in church leadership for many years. Dr. Barbian and his wife Corrine have been married since 1978. They have five children and 7 grandchildren. Dr. Barbian is an avid cyclist, hunter, and water skier.
