Thanks to the work of Patrick Carnes, Ph.D., the secular pioneer in the treatment of sexual addiction, and Mark Laaser, Ph.D., the leading Christian groundbreaker, more people are seeking help for sex and co-sex addiction. As a clinician, pastor, physician or support group leader, you are uniquely positioned to guide or assist the healing process.

Unfortunately, many Christian helpers are ill-equipped to address sexual addiction. Standard approaches like cognitive-behavioral therapy and using scripture alone are rarely effective. In fact, uninformed Christian counseling often adds to the sufferer's shame and makes the problem worse. Appropriate training is vital.

Bethesda Workshops provides training for clinicians, pastors and lay helpers. Our Therapist Observer program allows professionals to sit in on an actual treatment workshop. We also offer teaching conferences, CEU events, and church seminars.

The Resources section provides extensive information to help you help others: recommended reading, contacts for 12 Step groups, organizations that deal with sex addiction, and links to helpful sites.

For a variety of key topics about sexual addiction and recovery, Bethesda is in the process of writing a Position Paper that outlines our approach. Check this section often as topics are added.

In addition to understanding clinically sound approaches for treating sexual addiction and co-addiction, it's equally important to know what isn't helpful. Read Common Mistakes Made by Christian Helpers to avoid these pitfalls (coming soon).

You may also find it helpful to read the various articles Bethesda leaders have published in clinical journals and professional magazines.
